A case study covering the rebuild of a physiotherapy website from a single clinic into a scalable multi-location platform. The article focuses on website architecture, multi-location SEO, injury-specific content, Google Ads improvements, conversion tracking, and creating a stronger digital foundation for long-term patient acquisition.
I’ve just wrapped up another website build for a physiotherapy business that expanded from a single clinic to multiple locations. They offer three core services: physiotherapy, exercise physiology, and strength & conditioning focused on injury recovery. These pillars shaped the entire SEO and content strategy for the site.
When I first reviewed their existing Squarespace website, I noticed it had been patched together over time without much SEO planning. Many outdated pages with inconsistent URLS complicate deciding which pages to keep or remove. Some pages were already ranking or used in internal communications, so careful consideration was required to avoid losing valuable traffic.
The Challenge of Creating Detailed Injury Pages
To build the best possible site, I created around 60 pages targeting specific injuries and conditions the clinics treat-everything from ACL recovery to shoulder and hip issues. Each page needed to be well-researched, with medical accuracy and unique images, to ensure it stood out for both users and search engines. This level of detail is essential to building trust with visitors and improving rankings.
Multi-Location SEO: Structuring for Growth
The site became significantly more complex when the business opened a second clinic about 20-30 kilometres away from the first. For a single location, you focus your SEO on service pages targeting that suburb. But with multiple clinics, the site architecture has to support:
- Main service pages targeting broader locations (city or state level)
- Geo-targeted pages clustered around each clinic and their surrounding suburbs
This meant drafting a more intricate blueprint for the website, making sure every URL and page was structured logically for local search visibility and user experience.
Fixing Google Ads and Conversion Tracking
I also reviewed their Google Ads setup, which was underperforming due to wasted spend on irrelevant keywords and a lack of proper conversion tracking. Many health businesses use CRMS that don’t integrate well with Google Tag Manager, making tracking difficult.
Their ads funnel traffic to a single landing page outside the main website domain, which is far from ideal. Once the new site launches, we’ll direct traffic to optimised pages that align with the SEO strategy, improving conversions and overall campaign effectiveness.
The Power of Collaboration in Physiotherapy and Strength Coaching
From my experience and what I’ve learned in recent research, the combination of physiotherapy, exercise physiology, and strength coaching delivers better patient outcomes. Addressing injury recovery alongside strength and conditioning reduces re-injury risk and supports long-term health.
Multidisciplinary teamwork isn’t just a buzzword – it’s vital for holistic patient care. By reflecting this collaborative approach in the site’s content, the clinic can position itself as a leader in comprehensive injury management, which resonates well with patients and search engines.
Local SEO and Branding Opportunities with Multiple Locations
Having two clinics means managing two Google My Business listings, each with its review stream. This local presence is critical for attracting new patients through local search. I’m also excited to capture social media content with the team, especially since I’ve personally experienced ACL recovery. Sharing real stories and expert insights adds authenticity and helps build trust with the community.
Final Thoughts: Building a Sustainable, Patient-Focused Website
Building a website for a growing multi-location health service is about more than just creating pages. It’s about crafting a structured, strategic ecosystem that supports SEO, enhances user experience, and drives real business growth. This project has been a rewarding challenge, and it’s exactly the kind of work I’m passionate about.
